Our teams consist of approximately 30 students who compete in one or more events:  Raiders, Color Guard, Drill, Tug-a-War, Academics, and marksmanship (air rifle/archery).  

practice for teams is Tuesday - Thursday and are specific to each team.  Students who participate in practice have the option of riding an activity bus home.  Buses depart WCHS at 4:45 pm.  

Friends and family are welcome to attend competitions to cheer on the team.

Our Drill Team consists of 13 students who practice to increase precision and discipline.  Drill refers to what’s called Drill & Ceremony. When a group of cadets march from one location to another it’s called “drill”.  Our drill team competes in multiple competitions and represents our program during special ceremonies

Mountain Raiders

Mountain Raiders is toughest competition available to our cadets.  Whitley County JROTC has a long history of competing well in this competition and is currently the league champion.  

To earn the individual designation of Mountain Raider cadets must pass the following tests:

  • Fitness Test
    • 2-Mile Run  15:54 males     18:54 females
    • Push Ups     43 males         19 females
    • Sit Ups         54 males         54 females
  • 3-Mile Foot March with a load - 45 minutes
  • Orienteering Course – 100%
  • First Aid Test - 70%
  • 40' Rappel - complete successfully
  • Obstacle Course - complete successfully
